Meet Dr. Mehta
Sheilendra Suresh Mehta, MD, FACS

Dr. Mehta is a board-certified surgeon experienced in minimally invasive surgery. He is dedicated to using his surgical skill to help patients live healthier lives. Dr. Mehta is beloved by patients for his bedside manner and enjoys helping them reach their weight loss goals with compassionate and comprehensive care.
Dr. Mehta received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Medical School at Houston McGovern Medical School. His internship was completed at Staten Island University Hospital in New York, followed by his residency, where he won two Resident Research Awards and was named Most Outstanding Surgical Intern of the Year. He also performed fellowships in Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Missouri. Dr. Mehta then served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he instructed in minimally invasive surgery techniques.
Most recently, Dr. Mehta served as the Attending Surgeon at First Street Hospital, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, Hermann Drive Surgical Hospital, Park Plaza Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital – Texas Medical Center, and Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. He has published extensive medical research in bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and treatment for acid reflux. He currently serves as Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Memorial Hermann Sugarland Hospital, where he spearheaded the effort to earn a designation of Center of Excellence in December 2017.
